This is a video Jeff Miller and I put together for our video project. In this video Jojo is riding the 2010 Hyperlite Marek. This board is the one most aggresive boards in the Hyperlite line. Jojo says”This is the best board I have ever ridden….This is the first time I have ever jumped on a new board and said, I can learn some stuff on this thing.” This board has been a big hit for Hyperlite and sales have been thru the roof. The board is Rusty Malinoski’s pro modle board and has the most aggressive continuous rocker Hyperlite has ever used. So if you are trying to take it to the next level the Hyperlite Marek is the board you need to be on!! See you at the lake!

The Future of Social Media

Posted in Uncategorized on March 26, 2010 by rustyscott

The future of social media has already begun to pave its way into our lives with My Space, Face Book, and Twitter whether you have accepted it or not. Social media is becoming one of the most important marketing and media tools used in today’s online world. With social media people are becoming more and more connected to one another and speeding up the way our world is globalizing. For example, if you take look at the plane crash that happened last month in Austin, you will see how quickly the news spread. With out social media the first pictures and videos would have been seen on the local news channels. Because of social media people who get updates to their phones were able to avoid the traffic if they didn’t tune into the news before they left their homes. They were also able to understand what was going on faster than if they were to sit around and wait until the news was able to report it. Businesses are also able to use social media to advertise and create publicity for their business. Business are now able it tweet or do a status update on face book for promotions to a mass audience for free. This is making it easier for small business to grow faster and large business to generate more cash flow at much faster rates.

Whether Face Book and Twitter are here to stay or not social media will most definitely be apart of our lives from here on out. The advantages of social media are too good to just drop the ball on it and people and business are starting to figure this out. I feel there will be many more web sites like Twitter and Face Book in the future and possibly take them over as we have already seen happen with My Space. As the world of social media grows the knowledge of perfecting these sites will as well. This will lead our world more and more online and create a more and more globalized world. All in all social media is here to stay and will continue to grow at a very rapid pace!

Find A Style You Like

There are many places to Wakeboard and many different ways to do it. When it comes to the sport of wakeboarding that is what I enjoy the most about it. Every time you leave the house you can head to a different location and ride a different style of wakeboarding such as cable wakeboarding, riding behind a boat, or the newest thing winch riding.

Riding behind a boat is the most common way to wakeboard. It dates back to 1989 when the first board was shaped by Tony Finn, and by 1991 we had our first organized contest then it’s all history from there. Riding behind a boat can bring friends and family alike together. There is something about the atmosphere it creates and the possibilities on where to ride are endless. One reason I moved back down to the San Marcos area is for the abundance of clean lakes around here. In this area it is very possible to hit a few different spots in the same weekend. For example we have Lake Placid, Lake Dunlap, Lake Mcqueeney, Canyon Lake, Lake Austin, and Lake Travis all with in an hour. I’m sure I missed a few along the way because this area is packed full of good clean water. Even if you don’t have a boat there are ways to go about it. You can always hit up a friend. Just make sure you always pitch in a little for gas. Owning a boat is not a cheep process. If none of your friends have a boat you can always rent one up on Lake Austin or Travis for relatively cheep. Or you can always go hit up one of the local wakeboarding schools. Billy Garcia is a good friend of mine and provides amazing instruction at a really low-cost. (freeridewake.com) But the possibilities of wakeboarding don’t even start to end behind the boat.

Riding cable has been around in germany for years and years for skiing. In the past ten years the cable seen has shifted to wakeboarding and has come to the States. Here in our backyard we have the Texas Ski Ranch. This is a fun place to be considering it has it all. You can ride behind your choice of a bigger cable or the “lil bro” as they call it. The big cable where you can hit jumps and hit sliders or just catch killer air off the water. TSR also has the biggest board shop in the area. Don’t be fooled with the name you can buy anything here. They are a major competitor with the outlet mall selling everything from Toms to the freshest gear on the streets. They are also in the process of building a sports bar upstairs that will have a full bar!!! and TVs everywhere. The cable seen has really exploded in the last few years and cable parks are popping up every where. Here in Texas we will have four built by the end of the year between here and Dallas. But again the sport doesn’t stop here.

The newest craze in the sport that got Texas on the map is Winch Riding. essentually you have a portable pulley system that you can anchor down anywhere. This means you can hit spots on rivers with only a few inches of water. You can jump off waterfalls or even slide on trees. It’s wakeboarding with your surrounding natural elements. This is a very fun aspect of the sport but only for the experienced. It is very dangerous with the rushing currents and sharp rocks around. But this doesn’t stop a small community of riders from doing it. One of my good friends Gabe Lucas happens to reside here in town. He is one of the innovators of the winch riding sport and responsible for getting Texas on the map in the sport. He graduated from Texas State and owns the Rukus Skate Shop here in town. He has made the River Pub Dam a must travel to destination for winch riders. The possibilities are endless anywhere any time with anyone. Check it out.

The sport of wakeboarding is responsible for every decision I have made in the past 13 years and I will always carry the sport with me no matter where I end up. The fact that I have the possibility to ride somewhere new in a different way every day just gets me all fired up on the sport and hope you all can feel a little bit of the heat!

MAC VS PC

Posted in Uncategorized on February 12, 2010 by rustyscott

After watching the movies and reading the articles I was very impressed with apple and very surprised about what type of boss jobs is.  When it comes down to management styles I don’t think you can say one is better than the other but Microsoft has something to say for never being restructure and always maintaining Gates as CEO.  Gates has knew his whole life what he wanted to get done and has not let anything get in the way of it.  He is a strict boss and expects a lot out of his employees.  This was kind of my impression coming into the reading and it definitely supported it.  Before reading about the two different companies I assumed Jobs would be the boss you wanted to have.  He seems like he would be the boss that you joke around with and become friends with.  Come to find out he is a bit of a hard ass.  He is super competitive like Gates and doesnt let anything get in his way.  He is hard to impress and expects a lot out of people.  Although he does still carry they mentality of not having assigned parking spots.  Nobody high up in the company has their own parking spot.  Although he is known to park in the handicap parking when he is in a hurry.

When it comes down to the product I feel apple puts out a far more superior product then PC.  It starts from the outside the Mac just looks better than a PC.  I feel they cornered the market when they started making computers look good and created them to match a person’s personality or house.  Then when it comes to performance Mac takes the cake again.  I don’t understand why on a PC if you want to search for something you type in what it is you’re looking for and it takes 5 minutes the search the entire computer.  When if you where on a Mac you can pull up the finder and the computer will actually search as you are typing and before you can even look down at it the item is already there.

The examples are endless and I dont feel as if I am a bias because I have been a PC owner my whole life and still have a PC.  BUT my next big perches will be a Mac.

Hello world!

Hey guys this is my first post ever on a blog.  I am taking a class called Social Media at Work at Texas State.  I have done everything I can not to get onto twitter and join the blog world but come to find out it is a very important tool used in the crazy bissness world we have today.

A little about my self I guess would be a good place to start.  I graduated high school from Lake Dallas High School in 2005 and attended classes at Texas State for two years.  I then decided to take a break from school and open up a wakeboarding school In Dallas call Ride WBC.  (check it out it’s RideWBC.com) I have been wakeboarding for the past 12 years of my life and have been compeating on a professional level for the past 4 years.  (One reason for taking this class.)  Then before coming back to Texas State last semester I moved to Costa Rica!  That was the best decision I have ever made in my life.  If you have never traveled do it and do it alone.  You will learn so much more about your self than you though possible!  So now I am back in the states and should finish up school in December if everything goes as planned!
